Goodbye 2009! Thnks Fr Th Mmrs...

Well,
2009 is nearly in the can. It was a really
interesting year for me I'd say. Nothing bad
happened so that's good! But the year seemed to
just fly right by. Maybe that's how it is the older
you get? Part of it is likely because the boys keep
us so busy, making time really fly by. And
sometimes it's not all "fun busy" either. Homework,
sports, events, play dates, etc... it can really
add up! Seems like every year is a new phase and
adventure for us BECAUSE of the boys. I can't tell
you how many times we've said, "It'll get easier
once they get older" to which our friends laugh and
say "No it won't, it gets worse!" I can totally see
that now. Because the older they get, the more
complex or involved the situations become. I can
only imagine the stress level when they start
driving. Of course, the trade off is that they can
drive themselves places. But the thought of my boys
driving a car makes me want to throw up! I was SO
LUCKY not to have been killed on numerous occasions
from all the dumb things I did either behind the
wheel or as a passenger. Either I was smart,
skilled, or just plain lucky. Probably the later!
Anyway, had a real nice year. I made some new friends, re-discovered some old friends, learned a ton more about RC Vehicles, discovered and fixed a health issue, had a great year with the band, grew as a player, went to three Colts games, visited Holiday World for the first time, paid off my Explorer, invested $2500 into Explorer repairs (Thanks Ford!), and had my first at-fault accident in over 12 years!
Yep, I rear ended someone in front of me who decided to turn suddenly. I looked down at my radio for a split second, and BOOM! Ian and Ziggy were with me. No air bags were deployed thankfully. My Explorer didn't even stop running! But I rocked that car's world HARD. Sent it sailing into the ditch, it got airborne, flipped around, and landed turned the other direction. Totaled the car. My truck looked fine, yet had about $4000 damage! The other party was seemingly unhurt and not too concerned. In fact, they told the police that there were no injuries and that they didn't need an ambulance. But the ambulance came anyway. Of course, the second the paramedics showed up, they were bawling and howling in pure agony!!!!! It was so weird that even my 8yr old said, "Daddy, why are they crying?" HA!!!
"Because son, they are faking their injuries so they can sue the insurance company for a bunch of money."
"Daddy do you want me to start crying so we can get money?"
"No Ian, you don't need to do that, but thanks!"
And of course.... they managed to get an attorney, and have soaked my insurance company real good. I think it should be illegal for attorneys to get police reports and solicite people after an accident. I got all kinds of letters after the crash. The other party might not have had "get an attorney" on the brain until the letter showed up. And sometimes they are worded in a way that makes you think it was written directly TO YOU and FOR YOU, which if you didn't know any better, you'd call them. Next thing you know, there is a lawsuit and insurance companies getting hammered. There is no reason for it! My insurance company would have taken care of these people just fine. It's only if the insurance company doesn't, that you get an attorney. Getting an attorney involved is the last thing you want to do. So keep that in mind the next time you are in an accident. And when you come bitching to your insurance agent that your rates have went up despite not having any claims, you can thank the lawyers for it. Because insurance companies get soaked left and right, and they have no choice but to raise rates as a result. Believe it or not, insurance companies are lucky to break even on Auto and Home premiums every year. BREAK EVEN people. We're talking millions of dollars here. The money goes in, and goes out almost as fast.
I saw it coming a mile away too. Call it a stereotype or outstanding instincts, but stereotypes exist for a reason don't they? And I was right on the money! I swear that I were to get behind them again, I'd speed up next time....
Here's to hoping 2010 yields the same satisfaction as 2009 did!
